Advantages and Disadvantages of Botox Treatment

Botox Treatment Los Alamitos CA is often associated with severe facial wrinkles and other visible signs of aging. While injections to achieve a younger look are most common for the forehead, neck, chin, and eyes, Botox Treatment is effective for many other areas of the face. The most popular areas where Botox is used include the face, the forehead, and between the eyebrows (the marionette area).

Although Botox can be used for other areas of the body, it is most commonly used on the face. Botox can be used to minimize the fine wrinkles of the skin, or to plump up the hollow cheeks caused by a sagging face. Botox works by relaxing the muscles surrounding an individual's forehead, causing the muscles to sag. In the case of frown lines, the treatment area is the mouth. Botox is injected directly into the frown lines, under the muscle that controls the expression of the eyes. In this way, the wrinkles are minimized.

When the injector squeezes the Botox injection area, it causes the muscles to relax even more, making the smile more appealing. Botox treatment works best to minimize wrinkles and frown lines after a minimum of six months of daily use. In order to eliminate all folds from the face, the Botox cosmetic needs to be injected directly under the muscle rather than below it. During the procedure, the Botox agent reaches the deepest levels of the facial muscles.

After injecting the botulinum toxin type A, the plastic surgeon breaks tiny blood vessels beneath the muscles. As the blood comes in, the tiny vessels become swollen and lose their elasticity. This causes them to close in on the facial muscles. If Botox is used right after surgery to correct frown lines and other wrinkles, the cosmetic treatment will not cause any pain or bruising. However, patients need several weeks of cold compress to ease any pain that may be caused by the Botox injection.

The Botox usually takes about two weeks before the face looks normal again. But because the Botox injections to correct the muscle movement and prevent the formation of new ones, most patients only need one Botox treatment. Before Botox can be used to eliminate frown lines and forehead wrinkles, the patient must first be prepared for the risks of the cosmetic procedure. First, Botox injections are permanent.

This means that the frown lines cannot be erased by makeup or any other artificial means. Second, Botox treatment has a recovery time of between one to three weeks. Aside from the risks, another major drawback of Botox treatment is the fact that it cannot address facial injuries, diseases and medical conditions. For example, this treatment is effective for muscle spasms, migraines and back pain.

But if you have a slipped or herniated disk, you will not be healed with this cosmetic procedure. Also, because Botox cannot eliminate serious medical conditions, it is not advisable to use Botox cosmetic in conjunction with certain drugs or treatments. This includes the use of alcohol, birth control pills, aspirin and any other medication that affect blood sugar levels, antibiotics and steroidal drugs.

Another disadvantage of Botox cosmetic is the relatively short lasting effect. It usually takes up to six months before noticeable changes occur. This means that you will have to return to your doctor every few months to receive another Botox injection in case your skin or muscles are still experiencing an adverse reaction from the previous Botox treatment. Also, because Botox injections are only temporary, most doctors limit the number of Botox treatments a patient receives.

Generally, doctors recommend between one to three small doses for each area of the face or body that requires treatment. Although Botox has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, there are some safety precautions that you need to know before receiving Botox treatments.

First, make sure you do not have a preexisting medical condition that could be aggravated by the Botox. Also, remember to only have Botox injections conducted by a qualified, experienced cosmetic surgeon. Discuss your allergies, skin sensitivity and any other concerns with the doctor before undergoing Botox cosmetic. Botox treatments should be considered as an off-label product and not a cure.
